The objective of the eHealth lab is the development of intelligent medical diagnostic systems integrating a great variety of distinctly different technologies such as signal/image/video acquisition, preprocessing, feature extraction, dimensionality reduction, data mining and risk modeling, clinical decision making, and mobile health support and functionality. The reliability and robustness of the developed medical diagnostic systems is evident in their integration into clinical practice in several leading hospitals throughout the world. More recently, the lab expanded its activity into life sciences informatics, in the development of optimized algorithmic methodologies for the analysis of high dimensional genomic data, and in chemoinformatics, focusing on specific problems found in the small molecule discovery process in drug discovery. More specifically, the research areas covered by the lab cover the following:
- Computational Intelligence in Medical and Biological Systems
- Medical Image Analysis: Ultrasound, MRI, Endoscopy, Microscopy
- Biosignal Analysis: Electromyography
- eHealth, mHealth, and eEmergency Systems
- Life Sciences Informatics
- Smart, Ubiquitous, and Participatory Technologies for Healthcare Innovation
The lab is strongly collaborating with the Ministry of Health of Cyprus, Nicosia General Hospital, the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, and the Cardiovascular Disease Education and Research Trust, and other institutions.
It is anticipated that this research will continue the development of innovative information technology solutions in computational intelligence, medical imaging, eHealth systems, and life sciences informatics applications for the benefit of the citizen.
